Dana Martin
Chief Marshal
Dana Martin grew up in Cherokee County and began her career as a Deputy Sheriff with the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office in September 1997. She was promoted to Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and then to Major over Headquarters Operations. In this role, Martin was responsible for the Office of Professional Standards Internal Affairs Unit and Administrative Services Division including Accounting, Budgeting, Human Resources, Central Records, National Accreditation/State Certification, Recruitment, Quartermaster, and Property/Evidence.
In October 2020, Martin retired from the CSO after 23 years of service to accept the position as Cherokee County’s Public Services Agency Director. In March 2024, after a reorganization of the agency, she took on the position of Cherokee County Chief Marshal. In this role, she will continue to have principal oversight of the Marshal’s Office, Animal Shelter, Emergency Management Agency, Probation Services, Radio Technology Department, and Cherokee E 9-1-1.
Martin has a Master of Public Administration degree from Columbus State University. She is a graduate of the FBI National Academy Class #255, Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange 25th Delegation to Israel, IACP Women’s Leadership Institute, Columbus State University’s Professional Management Program, FBI Leeda Trilogy Program, FBI GA Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar (LEEDS), GACP Chief Executive Training and Certification, GA Police Officer Standards and Training Instructor/Management and Supervision Certification, and Leadership Cherokee 2006. She serves on the executive board with the Georgia Association of Women in Public Safety and the Chattahoochee Technical College Criminal Justice Advisory Committee. She is married, with one son who attends Mercer University and enjoys living in the Hickory Flat community of Cherokee County.
